Convert PNG to JPG

PNG is exact and heavy; JPG is approximate and small. For a photograph, that trade is almost always worth making.

When PNG to JPG is the right move

Three situations justify it. The first is a photograph saved as PNG — usually a screenshot export or a tool that defaults to PNG — where the file is five to ten times larger than it needs to be.

The second is an upload form that accepts JPG only. This happens constantly with government portals and older HR systems.

The third is email. A 4 MB PNG becomes a 1 MB JPG and stops triggering attachment size warnings.

What does not justify it: anything with transparency, anything with crisp text, and anything you plan to edit again. Every JPG save is lossy, so converting back and forth degrades the image each time.

Questions

What happens to the transparent background?

It becomes white. There is no way around this in JPG — the format has no alpha channel.

How much quality do I lose?

At the 0.92 quality this tool uses, essentially none that you can see. File size drops mostly because of how JPG stores colour.

Can I choose the quality?

This version uses a high fixed quality so the conversion is safe. If you need a specific file size, use the compressor afterwards.

Does it work with animated PNG?

No — only the first frame is converted. Animated content should stay as GIF or WEBP.
